Sports

Youth/Preschool Soccer

The YMCA’s Youth Soccer program for ages 3-5 introduces preschoolers to the basics of soccer with a focus on teamwork and sportsmanship. Each child is given equal playtime and the chance to learn foundational skills in a fun, supportive environment. With weekly practice sessions and games on Saturdays, young athletes can explore the joys of team sports and build friendships. Current schedules and fees are listed in the YMCA’s program brochure.

Preschool T-Ball Ages 3-4 & Coach Pitch Ages 5-6

YMCA T-Ball and Coach Pitch programs provide an introduction to baseball for children ages 3-6, with games planned to avoid Memorial Weekend. T-Ball is tailored for younger players (ages 3-4) while Coach Pitch offers a bit more challenge for those ages 5-6. Registration starts in February, and financial assistance is available for families in need.

Camps

Winter & Spring Break Day Camp

YMCA’s Winter & Spring Break Camps provide an exciting mix of arts, crafts, sports, obstacle courses, and recreational play for kids. Participants also enjoy swimming and unique field trips, building skills like leadership and independence while making lasting friendships. Camp runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, and parents are encouraged to pack a lunch and appropriate gym attire for their child.

Summer Day Camps

YMCA’s Summer Day Camps deliver the magic of summer camp experiences, allowing campers to explore nature, develop leadership skills, and build friendships in an outdoor setting. With programs for children aged 6-12, summer sessions blend learning and adventure, with a counselor-to-camper ratio of 1:14 ensuring personalized attention. Non-School Days

On school closure days, YMCA Non-School Day programs provide enriching, fun activities for children ages 6-13. Kids engage in arts and crafts, swimming, sports, and games, making each day enjoyable while teaching them valuable skills like teamwork and problem-solving. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

Youth Activities

Grandparents/Grandchildren Ball

Held annually, the YMCA’s Grandparents/Grandchildren Ball celebrates family and community ties. This lively fundraiser event includes snacks, refreshments, and raffle drawings, with all proceeds supporting the YMCA’s Goodtymes Program, which offers activities for individuals with special needs.

After School Childcare

YMCA’s After School Childcare serves Columbia Heights, Beacon Hill, and Butler Acres, providing a safe, engaging environment for children to complete homework, enjoy crafts, and participate in swimming. With after-school hours extending to 6 p.m., this program fosters development in a fun, structured setting. Monthly and weekly rates are available, and financial assistance options are provided.

Rainbow Corner

For YMCA members, the Rainbow Corner offers a complimentary child-watch service for children ages 6 months to 9 years. Open during select weekday hours, this supervised play area gives parents the freedom to enjoy YMCA facilities while staff ensures a safe, playful space for their children.

Preschool Programs Offered All Day Year Round

YMCA’s Tumbleweeds Preschool provides a supportive, interactive environment for children to grow mentally, socially, and physically. Through activities like music, art, science, and gym time, children build confidence and develop kindergarten readiness skills. Financial aid is available for eligible families, ensuring that all children have access to these foundational learning experiences.
